RE: If you can climb onto your roof ...

TOM>> we use the bathroom in the RV
Hi Tom! We do too! In fact, I often tell folks I'm more comfortable "inside" my rv than I am in my house ... because I'm only a few steps from the bed, bath and kitchen... with no steps ... and only an arm's length away from my wife and dog!
Hey, some relatives, the Mohn's, are from New Bern. We've been there several times, boating on the river. Really pretty area.

RE: Jayco Shirts

Bill ... I love my Jayco Jay Flight. I'm a big Jayco fan. Can you ask for a shirt for me?
But, I'm just a bit nervous that Jayco was able to find out your phone number from your profile of just "Bill B800si" in SE Michigan.
How did they find your phone number ... call all the Bill B's in SW Michigan in their registration records?
NOTE TO JAYCO ... I'm Charles W in Central Illinois. I'm in your registration files. Please send XL! HA!
I'm joking. And I'm happy Jayco is monitoring the site. It shows they care ... but I never doubted that.

RE: New Brake controller

Find a gravel parking lot ... adjust the gain so that when you hit the trailer brake manually (don't step on your tv brakes) the wheels lock and skid on the gravel ... back it down a little and you are good to go.
One word of advise. You say you live in the mountains. Well, I'm often in the mountains ... and the most important thing you have to remember is that you don't "set it and forget it" .... you have to regularly test and adjust your gain to reflect the driving conditions

RE: Friction Sway help

On my first three rigs, the little friction sway control ball was welded to a plate which was welded to the trailer frame.
Any chance you could get a welder to tack weld it in a couple of spots? Guaranteed not to come unscrewed!

RE: Electrical question

Harbor freight sells an inexpensive outlet checker ... has three lights ... two yellow, one red ... checks polarity and ground.
To use in on a 30 amp connection, plug the tester into a 30 amp to 110 converter plug ... and then test the outlet.
And yes, it should be done in every campground.

RE: If you can climb onto your roof ...

opnyn8d>>do what we can to make each others lives easier.
Thanks, I'm glad you understand. I didn't think what I was proposing was so difficult for some to understand. I sincerely worry that I may be taking up a spot that might be needed by someone worse off than me.
Serena>>In what document is the use of handicap spaces for vans in particular specified
In the mind and heart of anyone who has seen the difficulty of someone trying to open a wheelchair-lift-equipped-van to off load a quad in a reclining wheelchair in the middle of the street because all the handicapped spots are taken by people who could walk into the store.
Serena, I've read your various replies ... I'm sorry you think I'm trying to judge you. I'm not.
I got polio in 1949 ... close to 60 years ago. I've long been an advocate of disabled people and have been on the board of directors of Easter Seals, PARC, and others to mention a few. I've been on telethons for March of Dimes, MD, etc.
You said you were having a good day, and climbed on your RV roof and were going to go to Walmart the next day and would take a handicapped spot.
All I am trying to say is that you should never forget that someone worse off than you might be coming around the corner.
And please try to picture some single parent trying to open the lift-door on that wheelchair equipped van to off-load their Muscular Dystrophied child in a regular parking spot because all the handicapped spots are taken.
If you are truly having a good day ... and can climb on the roof of your RV or walk around Walmart ... please think about leaving that spot open for someone worse off.
And one thing I've learned in my 60 years of being disabled ... you don't have to look too far to find someone who is more disabled than you.

RE: Solar Panel/Is This a Good Deal?

I agree Dancing Bear ... there's a lot to love about the Harbor Freight, 45 watt-(three 15 watt panels) kit ... I think it's currently on sale for $199 ... and will provide more than enough power for conservative power users ..

RE: Feedback on Sierra 2500HD

I use cruise on the level and my foot in the mountains or steep hills ... otherwise the truck downshifts into what we call "mad truck sound," which really freaks out the dog (although I know it's ok for the truck ... but it just 'roars.')

RE: which Equalizer hitch???

Go with the 1,200 lb equal-i-zer. You won't regret it. My dry hitch weight started at 575 and was about 300 higher when we got it loaded with our stuff and water.

RE: Digital to Analog TV Converter in RV --- Wow!

javaseuf >>not totally accurate
I'm sorry, I thought I made that clear when I wrote in my opening post that "if you have cable in your house or HDTV in your RV."
I didn't mention satellite feeds ... because I forgot about them. But if someone has a sat feed now and later decided to use a pre-digital tv via the rv antenna, they WILL need the converter box ... so they probably should apply for government $40 coupons before they are all gone ... and the way I understand it, they are only handing out a certain number of "two(2)" coupons in phase 1 and then will revert only handing out 1 $40 coupon during a limited phase 2 program.

RE: GPS Coordinates of Blood Banks that buy blood

>>organ donation for diesel
Hmmm. I suppose I have an extra kidney. Ha!
sea dog >>recipient of the tainted blood purchased
Sea dog ... I'm sorry about your friend. My wife had to receive pack red blood cell transfusions for several days before delivering each of our kids c-section.
It was in the just-pre-aids era and to this day, docs check her for various things because the blood of that era (early 70s) wasn't screened.
It probably isn't a laughing matter.
But man, with the rising cost of fuel ... I'm starting to run out of ways to afford it!

RE: Help with Overweight Camper

And I guess I better start taking this weight thing seriously ... because remember, you have to add the weight of the passengers to the weight of your tow vehicle to get the gross combined vehicle capacity.
Now, that's gross.

RE: GPS Coordinates of Blood Banks that buy blood

I'm joking, folks.
I'm joking.
It would be too easy to cry.
Much better to laugh.
I haven't sold my blood since I was in college ... and that was for beer money.
But then again, gas was about 25 cents a gallon back then ... I could usually find enough change in the seat cushions and ashtray to fill the tank.
Hmmm. I wonder if today's college kids have to choose between selling blood for beer money ... or gas money.
Sure glad my kids are grown and gone ... I'd really be bummed if I was still paying for all the gas they drove through.

GPS Coordinates of Blood Banks that buy blood

We're about to start out on a 7 week, 5400 mile trip across the US and Canada.
Does anybody have the GPS coordinates or POI file for blood banks that purchase blood?
And I wonder how often my wife, dog and I can sell blood.
It would be more convenient if gas stations just opened blood banks ... I wouldn't have to be driving around, trying to find a place to sell my blood, so that I can afford the gas.
Yeah, that would be nice.
A combo gas station, McDonald's and Blood Bank.
The wave of the future
Of course, if I eat too many double cheeseburgers off the dollar menu, the blood bank would probably refuse my blood due to high cholesterol.
Man, I can't win.

RE: Supply and demmand my ...

We're leaving on a 7 week trip from Illinois to Colorado, up the Rockies to Lake Louise and Jasper, then up and over to Fort McMoney.
At Christmas, when we were planning this trip, I told my wife that the gas mongers would probably make sure gas is US$4.00 by Memorial Day ...
But I never imagine I'd be right!
Also, doesn't surprise me that fuel is C$1.50/litre in Canada ...
I'm hoping that that it doesn't go any higher.
I was going to motor back to Illinois across Canada, but I may reroute to get back to the states as soon as I can.

RE: Digital to Analog TV Converter in RV --- Wow!

Yeah, a DC converter box would be nice ... would use less than sticking my portable 120 watt inverter into a torpedo plug outlet in the rig or in a "jump it."
I'm a big fan of the portable "jump it" power supplies (the little suitcase things that you can use to jump a car.) The first thing I do is cut off the jump-its battery cables and just use the torpedo plug (cigarette lighter plug) as an auxilliary power supply.
I have a little 75 watt inverter ... which I'm hoping will be enough juice to run the Analog to Digital converter box.
I'm glad others are amazed at the picture quality and number of stations.
I haven't had mine that long ... but I'm finding that in many places, I don't even have to raise the antenna ... to get more stations that I ever go before.
